THE INFORMATION CENTRE EUROPE DIRECT

Who are we?

Information centre EUROPE DIRECT in Brno began operations in 1st May 2005 as a part of Information network EUROPE DIRECT that operates in 25 EU member states.

In Czech Republic there are in total 6 information centres EUROPE DIRECT (České Budějovice, Hradec Králové, Liberec, Olomouc, Pardubice a Tábor). Information centres EUROPE DIRECT are cofinanced by European Commission.

Information centre EUROPE DIRECT in Brno originates from Regional European Information Centre (REIS), that began operations in February 2000 with the support of the European Commission Delegation in the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The role of the REIC was, first and foremost, to inform the public about the European Union, the position of the Czech Republic on the current business of the EU, the individual member states and other matters associated with the EU. Now all theses activities are assume by Information centre EUROPE DIRECT. Our premises are in the centre of City Brno in Schrattenbachova palace. Palace make it easily accessible to all and a suitable venue for lectures, meetings and seminars for schools, interest groups and the general public.

We offer:

• consultancy services provided by specialist information officers
• lectures, seminars on EU topics for schools, interest group, public
• extensive sources of information - specialist literature, periodicals, audio-visual materials, electronic databases (Czech Press Office documentary database, TAM TAM media database)
• monitoring of the specialist press from available sources
• informational materials from Czech ministries, the EU Information Centre in Prague, the Information Office of the European Parliament in Prague and other promotional materials from other centres and partners with which REIC works
• EU sources of information on the internet - free access
• links to additional sources of information
• complete library services - searches in library collections using an on-line catalogue, inter-library loan service, press cuttings services, the provision of factographic and legal information, information from the state administration and local government, services for the blind and partially-sighted
