THE SOUTHERN MORAVIAN INNOVATION CENTRE

Who are we?

The South Moravian Innovation Centre was established in 2003 as an interest group of corporations by the Southern Moravia Region, the Statutory City of Brno, Masaryk University and Brno University of Technology. In February 2005 the group was joined by Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry and the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno.

The purpose of the South Moravian Innovation Centre is to create a suitable environment in the Southern Moravia Region for companies with an innovative potential by means of the introduction of the best possible practices in the areas of financing, co-operation between universities and the commercial sphere, establishing science and technology parks and incubators, and protecting intellectual property rights.

The SMIC supports the formation and development of innovative companies by mediating finances, consultancy services, contacts, business opportunities and business premises.

• finances - small loans, contacts to business angels, private and institutional investors, information on the possible use of the programmes of subsidies offered by the Czech Republic and the European Union
• consultancy - the establishment and development of a company, technological consultancy, marketing consultancy, patent and legal consultancy, seeking suitable subsidy programmes

promotion - presentation of companies at events organised by the SMIC and its partners, possible co-operation with SMIC partners

• contacts - assistance in seeking suppliers and customers, investors (Business Angel Club), networking and information brokering, partner companies, co-operation exchanges
• biotechnology - the Central European Biotechnology Portal at www.gate2biotech.com, the international competition Best of Biotech, biotechnology companies cluster
• premises - advantageous leases of premises in the Technological Incubator at Brno University of Technology
